What is Tarot?

What indeed is Tarot? Well technically, it's a collection of cards, 78 altogether, which have a very ancient and mysterious heritage. The tarot is commonly considered to predate the Egyptians. I believe the Tarot originally came from the library of Alexandria which was destroyed at about the turn of the millennium or, shortly after the birth of Christ. The symbols and messages of the cards had been absorbed into the ancient Egyptian Wisdom schools. So, the original wisdom in the Tarot and there is a great deal of that, is probably many thousands of years older than the Egyptian Kingdom itself. An ancient scroll with this critical information was subsequently found in Jerusalem by the Knights Templar during the Crusades by them and taken to Europe in the midst of the Dark Ages. These symbols and sacred Archetypes became cards, and with the help of scholars and gypsies, spread slowly throughout Europe bringing enlightenment and wisdom to the people. These Tarot Cards upset the Catholic Church because of their suggestion of a direct Path to the Divine. The Tarot was probably one of the chief reasons for the instigation of the Inquisition. Amazingly, they survived and are still with us. The Tarot guides and advises. modern man just as they have for our ancient forefathers.

So why do we have this fascination with the Tarot? To begin with the Tarot expresses itself in many different ways. Sure, it's a form of divination through which we can access Higher Knowledge and find answers to questions we face in the here and now, however it is also much more. The Tarot is also a form of psychology, a window to view our strengths, weaknesses, blocks and the bridges by which we progress. The Tarot is a tool for goal creation and for tapping into information that we didn't know we had access to. Answers that might lie just below the surface of our perception, we just can't see them!

The Tarot helps us move our goals forward by revealing what might be blocking us. Shows us areas within ourselves that are resistant to change and points to what needs to be done. The Tarot is a tool for creative visualization, the language of the unconscious mind, for developing psychic ability and for personal transformation. The Tarot is a great deal, and it is beautiful too!

Tarot comes in many decks that all have the same essential ingredients. While they all have their own styles their own colors and their own motifs. They should always have 78 cards, and they should always be of guidance and help to us. Each deck is like a miniature art gallery full of beauty and wonder.

How the cards work is mysterious but then so is life itself. Do you need to know how a car works before driving it. how a computer works before using it? I could talk for a very long time about how the Tarot works however all I care about is that Tarot does work! In fact the Tarot works wonderfully, is fun upbeat and very helpful. It has wonderful images, symbols and a deep connection to our dreams and
our sub-conscious. Come play in the gardens of Tarot with me. I'll make your discoveries a blast!
